Introduction:

The Wharton Medical Clinic is dedicated to providing the best individualized care for all patients. Many of our patients will require Bariatric surgery.
Gastric bypass surgery (Roux-en-Y) and laproscopic gastric banding will both be supported at the WMC. Patients should follow a pre and post surgical
program that fits best with their needs.

- All assessments are of no charge to the patient.

- All patients will be assessed by the Bariatric team for appropriateness for surgery. Particularly, the understanding that surgery will involve
lifelong changes in eating habits. Patient will require the necessary education to change their eating pattern prior to surgery.

- Patients interested in surgery will have an appointment with the Bariatric Surgical Educator and will require a medical assessment by a WMC
physician.

- Diagnostics tests including abdominal ultrasounds, cardiac tests, gastrointestinal investigations, blood work and possibly respiratory sleep
study analysis for sleep apnea may be necessary.

- Patients will be required to write a short paragraph describing their desire for surgery and the paragraph should demonstrate their knowledge of
the pros and cons of bariatric surgery.

- Patients will only be referred to Canadian Bariatric Surgical Programs.

- Patients are encouraged to attend all the educational sessions offered at the WMC.

- Patients are encouraged to attend the surgical support groups before and after their surgery.

- Patients are also encouraged to continue to attend the WMC clinic after their surgery.
